Try the same thing on Wi-Fi and on mobile data, then on another device. Slow on both networks points to the phone. Slow only on Wi-Fi points to the Wi-Fi or router. Slow only on mobile data points to signal, a data limit or a busy cell.

If it’s only slow on Wi-Fi
Stand next to the router and try again. Much faster there? Then it’s coverage, not your plan. If your router has a 5 GHz network, use it when you’re close — the 2.4 GHz band reaches further but is slower and often crowded. Also check whether someone else is downloading something big or backing up photos; one busy device can slow everyone down.
If it’s only slow on mobile data
One or two bars indoors is common — try near a window. Many plans also slow you down after a monthly allowance, so check your usage in Settings or your carrier’s app. In the evening and in crowded places, the same cell tower serves a lot of people, and speeds drop.
If it’s slow everywhere
Look at the phone: a VPN, data saver or battery saver, an app update or photo backup running in the background, or storage that’s almost full. If only one app is slow and everything else is fine, the problem may be that service rather than your connection.
Frequently asked questions
Why did my phone internet suddenly get slow?+
Common causes are weak Wi-Fi or mobile signal, a reached data limit, a VPN, background updates, or a busy network at peak time.
Does restarting my phone fix slow internet?+
Sometimes. But test before you restart: if the problem disappears, you lose the chance to see what caused it.
Why is mobile data slow at night?+
Evenings are peak hours, when more people share the same cell. A test at a quiet hour and one at a busy hour shows whether that’s the pattern.
If the slowdown comes and goes
One test can easily miss it. Diagnostix360’s Live Monitoring keeps measuring for up to 90 minutes and notes the time of every drop, and the report gives your provider something concrete to look at.
This article is general troubleshooting information, not professional, contractual, legal or SLA advice. The ranges are practical references, not certified pass/fail standards. Results vary with the device, network and time of day. Diagnostix360 describes conditions measured at that moment; it does not assign responsibility. See the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.
