One app-attributed number, split between mobile data and Wi-Fi, with the apps behind it underneath. Traffic Android cannot link to a normal installed app is shown separately as Other traffic, so the distinction stays clear. Tap any app for its own history. There is nothing to set up and no plan to enter before it works.
- A short note appears only when something is genuinely unusual, such as an app using far more than its own habit.
- Traffic your phone records without naming an app is shown as well, so the totals reconcile with Android's own data screen instead of quietly disagreeing with it.
- If you do have a monthly limit, add it and the app tells you whether it will last until renewal. That is optional and lives out of the way.

Apps active overnight
The hours nobody watches are the hours nobody checks.
Between midnight and seven, with the screen off, apps keep syncing, backing up and updating. Data Insight measures those hours and sends one short note in the morning. Most of what it finds is ordinary. Some of it is a photo backup running on mobile data, or an app you forgot you installed.
- Sent and received are shown separately, per app, because an app uploading far more than it downloads is the thing people want to see.
- No verdicts and no scare words. It reports amounts, and says plainly when the phone did not record enough to be sure.
- Every strong statement has a “Why?” behind it: the window measured, how long the screen was off, and what the app cannot see.
Apps that cost you data you never asked for.
Data Insight compares how much data an app used over thirty days with how long you actually had it open. An app you opened for three minutes that used a gigabyte is worth a look.
- Limit its background data, with the exact switch named before you go hunting for it in Android settings.
- Or uninstall it, and watch what that saved accumulate week after week.
- Apps that legitimately need to work in the background, such as photo backup or messaging, are described as such rather than accused.

Questions people ask first.
Why does it need Usage Access?
That single Android setting is what lets an app read the phone's own per-app network and screen-time records. Without it there is nothing to show. You switch it on once, in Android settings, and you can switch it off whenever you like.
Why are its numbers different from my phone's data usage screen?
Android files some traffic under anonymous buckets: the system itself, hotspot use, and apps that have been uninstalled. Data Insight keeps those out of the per-app totals so the app ranking stays honest, and shows the amount separately as other traffic, with a breakdown of what is in it.
Does it slow the phone or drain the battery?
It reads records Android has already written rather than continuously monitoring network traffic. A lightweight background refresh is scheduled about once an hour, with timing controlled by Android. It is designed for very low battery impact.
An app I deleted last week does not appear. Why?
Android deletes an app's name and icon when it is uninstalled and keeps only the bytes, so nothing can name it afterwards. Data Insight can only name apps it saw while they were still installed; from the day you install it, every app you remove keeps its name and its saving.
Will it work on my phone?
Android 10 and newer. Manufacturers record different levels of detail, and where a figure cannot be measured on your phone the app says so instead of estimating it.
